Pro Bono Service — Marques Law Firm Policy

At Marques Law Firm, we understand that legal practice also has a social dimension that calls us to contribute to the enforcement of fundamental rights and the expansion of access to justice. Therefore, we offer pro bono services to individuals and causes that meet our firm's ethical and institutional criteria.

Pro bono legal services, as regulated by the Brazilian Bar Association (OAB), consist of free, voluntary, and occasional provision of legal services for individuals who demonstrably cannot afford legal fees or for the benefit of non-profit organizations, provided that the ethical principles of the profession are respected. This is a complete free service, provided with the same standard of quality given to paid cases.

To ensure that this benefit reaches those who truly need it and to maintain the sustainability of our practice, we have adopted the following internal criteria:

Alignment with the firm's values
We only take on cases that align with our institutional mission, especially those related to promoting social justice, human rights, protecting vulnerable groups, and strengthening citizenship.

Unavailability of Public Defender services
Pro bono work is exceptional in nature. Therefore, we prioritize cases where the Public Defender's Office cannot act, does not handle the specific matter, or does not offer the type of legal support needed.

Proof of economic insufficiency
The interested party must demonstrate, through documents, that they do not have the financial means to afford legal fees without compromising their subsistence or that of their family.

Legal or social impact
We give priority to cases that, in addition to individual vulnerability, also represent broader impact — whether community-based, structural, collective, or related to the affirmation of rights.

Response time and service capacity
Due to high demand and our commitment to technical quality, we inform that:

  • The initial analysis of pro bono service requests may take up to 15 days.
  • Approved cases may be placed on a waiting list, considering that we have limited capacity for simultaneous free legal work.
  • The selection process is technical and careful, always aimed at ensuring responsible, ethical service that is compatible with available human and operational resources.

Each request is analyzed individually, with respect, care, and professional responsibility. Approval depends on full compliance with the criteria and the firm's availability at that time.

If you believe your case fits within Marques Law Firm's pro bono policy, please contact us to submit your documentation and undergo screening. We remain committed to promoting access to justice without compromising the excellence and ethics that guide our practice.
